What to Pack for October Half Term: A Parent’s Checklist (Sun, Showers & Everything Between)

October 03, 20252 min read

Packing for October half term can feel like preparing for four seasons in one day — especially here in the UK! Whether it’s sunshine, showers, or a crisp autumn breeze, we’ve got you covered with this quick guide to help you prepare for your child’s week at KSA Holiday Camps.

Our goal is to make sure every child is comfortable, safe, and ready to enjoy a full day of activities — so here’s everything you need to know before drop-off.

1. Weather-Appropriate Clothing

The weather can be unpredictable in October, so layering is key.

  • Comfortable Base Layers – T-shirt and leggings/joggers for ease of movement.

  • Warm Layer – Hoodie, fleece or light jumper for cooler mornings.

  • Waterproof Outerwear – A lightweight, hooded rain jacket is a must for those rainy autumn days.

  • Spare Clothes – Pop in an extra pair of socks, bottoms and a top, just in case things get muddy.

2. Footwear That Can Keep Up

Our camps are packed with activities — indoors and outdoors — so good shoes make a big difference.

  • Trainers – Ideal for most sports and activities.

  • Football Boots & Shin Pads – Only if your child is attending Football only sessions.

  • Spare Pair of Shoes – Useful if their main pair gets wet during outdoor play.

3. Packed Lunch & Healthy Snacks

Children are active throughout the day, so plenty of fuel is essential.

  • Packed Lunch – Something nutritious and filling.

  • Healthy Snacks – Fruit, cereal bars, crackers — nothing containing nuts, please.

  • Refillable Water Bottle – We have drinking water available on site all day, so they can stay hydrated.

(Tip: Pack food in a labelled lunchbox so it’s easy to spot during snack and lunch breaks.)

4. Sun Protection (Yes, Even in October!)

Believe it or not, sunny autumn days still call for sun protection.

  • Sun Cream – Children should know how to apply their own sun cream; we’ll encourage them to reapply if needed.

  • Cap or Hat – A good idea if the forecast is bright.

5. Things to Leave at Home

To keep things running smoothly and safely, please don’t pack:

  • Toys or personal sports equipment (we provide everything needed)

  • Phones, tablets, or electronics

  • Food containing nuts (due to allergies)

6. Labelling Everything

With lots of children and lots of layers, items can easily get mixed up. Write your child’s name on:

  • Water bottles

  • Lunchboxes

  • Coats, jumpers and spare clothes

This makes it far easier for us to return items if they get left behind.

Final Tip: Check the Forecast!

A quick look at the local forecast the night before will help you add or swap out any last-minute items — whether that means extra waterproofs for a rainy day or lighter layers for an unexpected warm spell.

Ready for October Fun?

With this checklist, you can relax knowing your child is ready for whatever October throws at them — and focus on letting them enjoy their week of fun, fitness and friends at KSA Holiday Camps.
