Your Child’s First Camp? What to Know Before Arriving at Our October Half-Term
Sending your child to camp for the very first time can be a big step — for you and for them! At KSA Holiday Camps, we know that the lead-up to your child’s first day can be filled with excitement and a few butterflies.
This guide will walk you through what to expect, what to prepare, and how to make sure your child feels confident and ready for a brilliant first camp experience this October half term.
1. Talk About the Day Ahead
Children feel more relaxed when they know what’s coming. In the days before camp:
Talk them through the routine – Drop-off, activities, lunch, pick-up.
Share positive stories – Mention games they might play, new friends they might make.
Answer questions honestly – A little reassurance goes a long way.
2. Pack Together
Let your child help with packing their bag — this gives them a sense of independence and helps them know where everything is.
Include:
Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing (layers are perfect for October).
Lunch, snacks and refillable water bottle.
Football boots/shin pads if booked on Football Academy.
A spare set of clothes — just in case things get muddy!
3. Arrive a Little Early
If it’s your first time visiting the venue, aim to arrive a few minutes early. This gives you and your child time to:
Find the sign-in area without rushing.
Meet the friendly KSA team.
Get settled before the first activity begins.
4. Label Everything
With lots of children, coats and bottles can easily get mixed up. Write your child’s name on:
Water bottle
Lunchbox
Jumpers, jackets and spare clothes
5. Help Them Feel Comfortable
It’s normal if your child feels a little shy at first. Here’s how to make the transition smoother:
Keep goodbyes short and positive – Lingering too long can make it harder.
Trust the staff – Our team is trained to help children settle quickly.
Celebrate afterwards – Ask them about their favourite part of the day when you pick them up.
6. Know That We’ve Got It Covered
All our staff are trained, experienced and passionate about creating a safe, welcoming environment for children.
All equipment is provided.
We follow strict health and safety procedures.
Children are supported to take part at their own pace.
7. Relax and Enjoy the Break!
Remember — camps aren’t just great for children, they give you a chance to focus on work, errands or just enjoy a well-earned rest knowing your child is having fun.
Ready for Their First Adventure?
With a little preparation and a lot of excitement, your child’s first camp can be a brilliant milestone.
